Last week, Issue February 22nd, I wrote the article, “From Snake Skin to Silky in Ten Days.” It was without a doubt the most read and forwarded article I have written since my emails became electronic.
Yet I felt dissatisfied as the week progressed and I realized there is so much more I need to write and tell you about turning your Snake Skin to Silky in Ten Days. I also noticed a lot of readers copied and printed the article for reference, maybe as a shopping list.
It’s not just treating the skin from the outside that changes its appearance. One needs to follow a healthy diet rich in nutrients to feed the skin and the hair.
Here’s what I want to add to that singular post: It’s not just treating the skin from the outside that changes its appearance. One needs to follow a healthy diet rich in nutrients to feed the skin and the hair.
I am a big believer in dairy products especially yogurt for beautiful skin. In fact, studies have shown that probiotics are important for beautiful skin, especially those affected by acne or constant breakouts. A diet rich in greens offers multiple benefits for those interested in firming the skin with new collagen production. And vibrant colored vegetables and fruits offer a plethora of vitamins for that healthy glow.
But here’s the important one I often hear clients avoiding in an effort to lose weight: healthy fats. Anyone who has done a radical diet will tell you that their skin and hair suffered visible and long lasting degeneration.

Essential Fatty Acids, they’re called essential for a reason! EFAs are a powerhouse for the skin and the hair as well as the entire body. Omega 6 can be found in poultry, cooking oils and grains. Omega 6 is found in fortified eggs, soy, flax, sardines, salmon, mackerel, safflower oil and walnuts. EFAs are important to include as a supplement in an American diet.
Here’s a list of supplements I take and recommend for silky skin and luxurious hair:
Omega 3 Fish Oil (specifically EPA and DHA) 500+ mg daily
Borage Oil) 1000 mg every other day. (look for soft gels that say “pyrrolizidine alklaloid free.”)
Alternate with Evening Primrose Oil 3000 mg on alternate day
Flaxseed Oil 2-4 grams twice daily. (Work up to this slowly.)
Black Currant Seed Oil 500 mg two to three times daily.
Vitamin E 200 mg daily
Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids 1000/500 minimum daily requirement
Probiotics one to two million CFUs
Hyaluronic Acid 100-200 mg per day
Zinc 40 mg per day
Silica 20-40 mg daily
Selenium 200 mcg daily
Viviscal 2 tablets daily*
Be advised that all foods and supplements can possibly cause allergic symptoms. Therefore, my recommendation is to introduce the above supplements one at a time to deduce their effect on your individual system.
