Blackheads and whiteheads are referred to as comedones. Blackheads are called open comedones because the sebum, skin debris and bacteria in the pore is exposed and oxidized by the air, turning the contents black. A whitehead is a closed comedo because the same contents are contained under the skin. Blackheads are commonly found in the T-Zone where whiteheads can be anywhere on the face. Whiteheads are a little more difficult to treat and take a bit longer to clear. Do not do your own extractions! It stretches out the pores, increases chances of infected pimples forming and eventually disfigures the shape of the nose. Allow products to do their thing for six weeks, then schedule monthly visits with a licensed esthetician to keep your skin clear. Don’t hesitate to see a Dermatologist if your complexion is not significantly better within three months.
